Today marks a special date in the life of renowned Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, who on June 25th turns 91 years old. Recognized worldwide for his minimalist style and unique sensitivity for integrating his creations into the urban environment, Siza continues to influence generations of architects and urban planners.
In parallel to this celebration, today we celebrate one year since the first private screening of the official documentary about his life and work, SIZA. A historical exhibition celebrating the architect's 90th birthday with the presence of illustrious figures from the Portuguese architectural scene, the government of Portugal, as well as a close selection of friends and family.
In celebration of this first year since the landmark premiere at Casa da Arquitectura, and its anniversary, the Gallery platform made an extended version of the trailer available, offering viewers an expanded opportunity to delve into the story and trajectory of Álvaro Siza. Initially scheduled for 2024, the release of the full version of the documentary was postponed to the second half of 2025, due to the success of the production at film and architecture festivals around the world.
In total, the Siza documentary has already covered more than 12 countries, being present at renowned events such as the AFFR - Rotterdam Architecture Film Festival and the Milano Design Film Festival. The Documentary featured several cultural events with partner art and culture institutions around the world, bringing even more visibility to one of the greatest icons in Portuguese history.
